ABUJA – The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed Adolphus Wabara as its Chairman and Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi as Secretary, according to a communiqué issued on Tuesday.
The confirmation, made during the 76th meeting of the BoT on February 13, 2024, aligns with the provisions of the PDP Constitution, as amended in 2017, as reported by News Week Nigeria.
The communiqué highlighted various pressing national issues addressed during the meeting, expressing deep concerns over economic hardship, food scarcity, and insecurity plaguing the country. It criticised the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration for exacerbating these challenges.
The BoT underscored the alarming rise in insecurity, including mass killings, banditry, and terrorism, attributing it to the perceived laxity of the APC government in addressing security issues. Additionally, it condemned corruption within the administration and the devaluation of the naira, leading to soaring inflation and unemployment rates.
In a direct call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the BoT urged immediate action to address the country’s challenges, including corruption, insecurity, economic instability, and unemployment.
Despite the daunting challenges, the BoT reassured the Nigerian public of the PDP’s unity and determination to work for the welfare of Nigerians. It called upon all party organs, leaders, stakeholders, and members to remain united and focused as the party repositions itself for the future.
The confirmation of Wabara as chairman comes amid intensified efforts by the PDP to address pressing national issues and position itself as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
