ABEOKUTA, Nigeria. Penpushing Media, described as the first online newspaper to operate in Abeokuta, celebrated its 8th anniversary with a lecture and award ceremony centered on governance and public accountability.
Welcoming guests, Founder His Highness Prince Dimeji Kayode Adedeji said the annual lecture has recorded consistent success. He noted the significance of hosting the event in Abeokuta, the birthplace of journalism in Nigeria since 1859.
Speaking on behalf of management, the Editorial Board and members worldwide, he said the anniversary celebrates Penpushing Media’s growth into a globally recognized platform for authentic news.
Prince Dimeji Adedeji outlined major partnerships with the United Nations Information Centre, UNIC, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, WARDC, Leading Women Africa, Metropolitan Broadcasting Services Ibadan, Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, and Fad Maestro Academy.
The organization is also a member of GOCOP, NGE, and IPI.
He disclosed that Penpushing Media has trained journalists nationwide with UNIC, hosted World Press Freedom Day webinars, and expanded into broadcasting with new equipment, a live streaming studio, and an online TV channel. The media house operates from Abeokuta with a branch office, and maintains links in Canada and the UK.
On social responsibility, he said over 90 students have completed industrial attachments with the organization, while orphanages have also received educational sponsorship and donations.
The keynote address was delivered by Femi Falana, SAN. The legal luminary and human rights activist spoke on the theme: “Restoring Electoral Integrity: The Path to Good Governance and Public Accountability.”
The Founder ended by appreciating the Editorial Board, Planning Committee, members and readers, and called for more advertising support to sustain the organization’s work.
