Jos, Feb. 20, 2026 (NAN) The Plateau Government has constituted a special committee to investigate the series of complaints by residents on allegations of unprofessional conducts by some Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) in the state.
Mr Davou Jatau, the Commissioner for Transportation in the state inaugurated the committee on Friday in Jos.
Jatau said that the committee is a decisive move towards promoting transparency, accountability and upholding citizens’ rights.
Jatau, who acknowledged the role of the VIO towards vehicle safety, enforcing traffic laws, and promoting roadworthiness, insisted that government agencies must operate within legal and ethical boundaries.
“The transport sector is a pillar of our economy, and the VIO plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety.
“Yet, recent complaints have brought to light over misconduct, harassment and overzealous enforcement by some officials is a thing of concern.
“So, it is our duty to investigate these allegations thoroughly, fairly and transparently,” he said
The commissioner, however, tasked the committee to carry out the assignment diligently, fairly and with integrity.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the committee were drawn from state ministry of transport, justice, the media, Civil Society Organizations, among others.
NAN also reports that some residents of the state via their social media handles raised deep concern over alleged misconducts by the VIO in the state.(NAN)
