Ikorodu (Lagos State), March 7, 2026 (NAN) Mr Tosin Kuku, Chairman of Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association, has appealed to Lagos State Government for inclusion of members of the association in political appointments at the local government level.
Kuku made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the first annual meeting of PLWDs in Ikorodu West.
The event held at the Ikorodu West Council secretariat on Saturday in Lagos.
NAN reports that Lagos State Government has just released names of secretaries and supervisors appointed to its 20 local government areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
Kuku said the inclusion would help local councils in prioritizing the welfare of persons with disabilities.
He added that it would ensure increased attention to PLWDs and protection of their rights.
“Appointing our members will create opportunities for better engagement between government and the disability community.
“It will help to promote environmental awareness and address the needs of persons with disabilities.
“It will also strengthen inclusion in local government policies, programmes and other initiatives,” he said
According to him, some members of the association have earned degrees in different fields.
Kuku expressed gratitude to Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, for demonstating friendship with PLWDs and giving them opportunities to speak up.
Kuku urged Olanrewaju to do more for the community of disabled people.(NAN)
