Badagry (Lagos State), April 1, 2026 (NAN) The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 28-year-old commercial cyclist, Muhammed Garuba, in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing five-liter container of groundnut worth N18,000.
Garuda is charged with theft and breach of peace.
He pleaded guilty to theft but pleaded not guilty to breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel , Insp. Friday Maneh, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Tuesday, at about 11.30.a.m, at the Badagry Market, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole the container of groundnut oil, belonging to Mrs Dorcas Mobee, the complainant.
He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by causing pandemonium.
The police said the defendant intended to use the stolen groundnut oil to cook for a party for his new born baby on Friday.
“He went to the market stole the oil and ran away.
“He was caught by the people and handed over to Police for prosecution.
The offence, he said, contravened the Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A J Aina, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N150,000 with two sureties in the like sum on count two
Aina adjourned the case until April 27 for fact and sentence on count one. (NAN)
