A young man, Ogundare Ayo, 24, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and unlawful damage.
The defendant, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of shop breaking and unlawful damage, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 7 at about 7:00 p.m. at Basiri Area, old Iyin road in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the workshop of one Kunle Ojo.
Apata also alleged that the defendant unlawfully damaged things in the workshop with intent to steal the complainant’s alternator.
According to him, the offences contravened Section 325 and 354(5) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Joy Egbuson, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that the latter would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case untill June 16 for hearing.(NAN)
