Ado-Ekiti, Feb.16, 2026(NAN) The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 38-year-old man, Segun Omoboriola, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb.14 at about 11:00 p.m at Ayedun Quarters, Nova Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted one Emmanuel Alajide by cutting him on the face with an iron saw blade, thereby causing him harm.
Adeniyi said that the defendant also stole a wooden “piggy bank” containing the sum of N450,000 belonging to the complainant.
He said that the complainant and the defendant fought each other, which resulted in both of them assaulting each other.
According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 186 and 302(i) (a) (g) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adeyinka Opaleke, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Babalogbon said that one of the sureties must be a level 12 civil servant, while adjourned the case till March 26 for hearing.(NAN)
