The Police Command in Delta has apprehended four suspects over alleged kidnapping and robbery in multiple operations in the state.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Warri.
Edafe said that two of the suspects were arrested on Tuesday by the police operatives attached to the Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the suspects unlawfully gained access into a residential compound, but fled after noticing the presence of the occupants.
According to him, the swift response and vigilance of the community members led to the arrest of the suspects who were subsequently handed them over to the police.
“On June 23, the police received a report regarding the arrest of two suspects linked to an attempted robbery.
“Acting on intelligence obtained during preliminary investigation, the police operatives searched the suspects’ residence and recovered one locally- made pistol concealed inside a wardrobe,” he said.
Edafe said that the suspects were currently in the police custody, adding that  investigation into the matter was ongoing.
He said that the command also arrested two suspected kidnappers in Ughelli North.
Edafe said that the suspects were nabbed on Monday by the police operatives attached to the “A Division” Ughelli in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group.
Edafe said that the suspects were linked to a failed kidnap attempt that occurred on Saturday in Ughelli.
“The suspects were arrested on June 22 after emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medications.
“Following their arrest, a victim of an earlier kidnapping incident positively identified the suspects as among his attackers,” he said.
Edafe said that the suspects had been detained in police custody, adding that investigation was ongoing to ascertain the extent of their involvement in the crime.
He also said that the command had intensified effort to arrest other members of the criminal gang. (NAN)
