Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has addressed a surge in inquiries surrounding the proposed demolition of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) Shopping Complex located in Ikeja, Lagos. The Force emphasizes that the complex, owned by the Nigeria Police Officer’s Wives Association and officially designated for the use of police officers’ wives and their relatives, is slated for demolition to pave the way for the immediate construction of a modern shopping complex on the same site.
The decision to demolish and reconstruct stems from professional assessments indicating that the current structure poses an impending environmental hazard. The location is susceptible to flooding and potential sudden collapse, necessitating urgent landscaping and reconstruction efforts. The planned demolition and subsequent reconstruction will be executed in phases, with the primary goal being the overall improvement of the facility.
All requisite legal protocols have been diligently adhered to. Occupants of the complex have been duly notified well in advance of the demolition, allowing ample time for their evacuation. Temporary accommodations within the same complex have been arranged for the affected occupants during the reconstruction period. Additionally, the relevant agency of the Lagos State Government has been consulted, and the necessary approvals for demolition have been obtained in accordance with their expert advice.
The Nigeria Police Force urges the public to dismiss baseless claims, unfounded protests, and media allegations of wrongdoing and illegality in connection with the planned demolition. Emphasizing its commitment to the welfare and living standards of its personnel and their families, the Force reassures Nigerians that the demolition is undertaken in good faith and for the collective benefit of all concerned parties.
