A 43-year-old landlord, Oladele Otusanya, on Thursday appeared before a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly denying his tenant access to his apartment.

The defendant, who resides at No. 5, Adelanwa Close, Off Efon-Alaye Street, Shomolu Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of public peace and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chekwube Okeh, told the court that Otusanya committed the offences on Jan. 5, at the same address.

Okeh alleged that the complainant, one Akan Imeh and his family, came back from church and found out that the defendant (landlord) had changed the locks to his apartment.

He stated that the complainant did notice that some of his belongings were missing after gaining access to his apartment with the assistance of police personnel after he reported the matter.

According to the prosecutor, the missing items are an iPhone 13, a Samsung phone, and N500,000 cash, all valued at N1.8 million.

The offences, Okeh said, contravened Sections 168 and 280 (2)(f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Magistrate, Mr. A.I.O. Alaka, granted Otusanya bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Alaka adjourned the case until Jan. 29 for substantive trial (NAN)
