Lokoja, Jan. 23, 2026 (NAN) The  Police Command in Kogi  has unveiled two new police outposts to boost security and community policing in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the outposts in Lokoja on Friday, the  Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, described it as a milestone in the command’s pursuit for security and peace in Kogi.

Kankarofi said  the inauguration was
in furtherance of commitment of the   force to strengthening internal security architecture, enhancing rapid response to threats and emergencies, and fostering improved police-community relations.

He said the projects, executed by the police  under  leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (I-G)  Kayode Egbetokun, were part of ongoing efforts to deepen effective policing and expand police presence across communities.

According to him, the newly commissioned outposts, located at Adankolo area of Lokoja under ‘A’ Division and Zango area of Lokoja under ‘D’ Division, were strategically sited.

“They are to enhance policing coverage, deter criminal activities, and ensure swift response to security threats within the areas and their environs.

“Their establishment followed concerns raised by members of the communities during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting, where residents highlighted the absence of police formations and the attendant security challenges.

“These outposts are not just physical structures but a reflection of our commitment to listening to the people and responding to their security concerns.

“Sustainable security can only be achieved through cooperation between the police and the communities,” he said.

Kankarofi reassured Kogi residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining proactive security measures across the state.

He, however, urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information, assuring that all information provided would  be treated with utmost confidentiality.

The commissioner charged officers posted to the new outposts to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights, in line with the vision of the I-G for people-oriented and community-based policing. (NAN)
