The Osun State Police Command has invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, for questioning over alleged inflammatory remarks concerning members of the Accord Party ahead of the state governorship election.
The development followed the circulation of a viral video in which Fadahunsi was allegedly heard making remarks interpreted as a threat against members of the Accord Party.
The statement has generated reactions amid heightened political activities ahead of the election.
In the invitation letter signed by the Commissioner of Police overseeing the Osun election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, the police said, “The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms.”
The senator was invited to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statement. However, Fadahunsi has reportedly said his remarks were misunderstood, explaining that he was referring to defeating the Accord Party with votes rather than physically attacking its members.
The controversy has continued to attract reactions from political actors, with the Accord Party reportedly calling for Fadahunsi’s arrest and prosecution over the alleged threat. The police invitation is expected to enable the command to establish the context of the senator’s remarks and determine the appropriate course of action.
