The Federal Government on Wednesday announced the closure of the nation’s land and sea borders for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
The closure was announced by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, in statement he issued in Abuja. According to the statement, all borders will effectively be closed from midnight of March 25 to midnight of March 28.
In the statement, Magaji said the borders would be closed “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections”. The statement also said the Nigeria Immigration Service has been directed to ensure that non-Nigerians do not participate in any part of the election process.
