Abuja, July 30, 2025 (NAN) Many residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have decried the epileptic power supply presently being witnessed across the territory in spite of huge investment in the sector.
According to them, in spite of the huge investment by the government and stakeholders, power supply has not improved.
The consumers, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, said that a lot of funds were put into the sector, but no corresponding results had so far been achieved.
Mr Amos Idehen, a Welder residing in Lugbe, said that a lot of funds had gone into the sector to improve electricity, but it was not yielding the desired results.
According to him, every day we keep hearing of billions of naira that has been invested in the power sector, but it does not translate to commensurate power supply as businesses are folding up every day.
He said that, except for those on Band A, other consumers were not enjoying stable power supply, adding that those consumers pay heavily for the services being rendered to them.
“All I am saying is that as the government and stakeholders are investing in the sector, the money should be used to improve power supply, ‘’ he said.
Mrs Ugochi Okafor, an electricity consumer also residing in Lugbe, said that the inability of the power sector to meet the demands of electricity users was frustrating.
Okafor said that many small businesses had collapsed as a result of the poor electricity in Nigeria, in spite of the huge investment.
“We cannot feel the impact of the investment because we still have unstable power supply in many parts of the country, ’’ she said.
Mr David Akpe, a Fashion Designer, resident in Kubwa, said that the number of people who need power had increased tremendously when compared to the rise in electricity output.
He said that there was no significant growth in the sector, considering the enormous funds that had gone into the industry.
“So, my appeal is that the Federal Government should revisit the issue to see how the power sector can work effectively, ‘’ he said.
Mrs Joan Okolocha, a lawyer also residing in Kubwa, said that her area had been without power supply for almost two days.
Okolocha said that with the huge investment in the industry, it was enough to provide 24 hours electricity for consumers.
“A lot of investment has been put into the power sector, and this is enough to give electricity to consumers for close to 24 hours a day.
“I am appealing to the Federal Government to visit the issue of investment in the power sector to find out what can be done to improve on it,” she said.
Mr Amos Adamu, a civil servant residing in Orozo, said that the power situation in his area had been epileptic.
According to him, all the money that is put into the sector, I don’t know what it is used for that power supply is not regular till now.
”I think government should audit the industry to find out what is happening to those funds,” he said. (NAN)
