President Tinubu Outlines Vision for 2024 in New Year Address

LAGOS, January 1, 2024 – In his New Year address to the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed gratitude to the citizens of Nigeria and outlined his administration’s vision for the year 2024, highlighting key priorities and plans for the nation’s progress.

President Tinubu began by acknowledging the challenges faced in the past year, emphasizing the peaceful transition of power and the successful transfer from one administration to another, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 24 years of unbroken democracy.

Addressing the nation’s economic concerns, President Tinubu discussed the tough decisions made in the past seven months, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms. He acknowledged the discomfort caused by these decisions but assured citizens that they were essential for the country’s long-term financial stability.

The President expressed understanding of the rising cost of living, high inflation, and underemployment rates, acknowledging the frustrations of the citizens. He urged Nigerians to remain resilient, emphasizing that tough times are temporary and encouraging a collective commitment to being better citizens in the new year.

President Tinubu highlighted achievements in addressing security challenges, mentioning efforts to secure the release of captives from abductors. While acknowledging that more work needs to be done, he reassured citizens of ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security across the nation.

Turning to economic recovery, President Tinubu outlined plans to accelerate service delivery across sectors. He mentioned a new deal with the German Chancellor to expedite the Siemens Energy power project, focusing on delivering a reliable electricity supply. The President also highlighted initiatives to restart local refining of petroleum products and efforts to cultivate farmlands to ensure food security.

In his commitment to business competitiveness, President Tinubu emphasized the simplification of fiscal and tax policies to create a conducive business environment. He declared Nigeria as ready and open for business, pledging to remove obstacles hindering local and foreign investments.

President Tinubu’s 2024 budget presentation to the National Assembly prioritized national defense, internal security, job creation, macro-economic stability, investment environment optimization, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security. He assured citizens that the economic aspirations of the poor and vulnerable would not be neglected and announced the implementation of a new national living wage for workers.

Closing his address, President Tinubu called for unity and collaboration among Nigerians, urging all citizens to work towards the peace, progress, and stability of the country. He extended this call to political opponents, emphasizing the need to work together for the greater good of Nigeria.

President Tinubu wished all Nigerians a happy and prosperous year 2024, concluding with a prayer for God’s continued blessing on the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
