Prowess University Confers Honorary Doctorate on Moruff Babatunde Ajiga

LAGOS, June 1, 2024 – Prowess University, Delaware, United States, will confer an honorary Doctorate Degree on renowned accountant Moruff Babatunde Ajiga on Saturday. The award recognizes Ajiga’s outstanding contributions as an accounting professional, manager, socialite, and civil servant.

The award ceremony will take place at the University of Lagos, Akoka, and will feature several other distinguished recipients. Ajiga, noted for his creativity, excellence, and dynamic leadership in quality service delivery, has demonstrated a commitment to exemplary leadership through sound education.

Born on July 12, 1968, Ajiga began his education at Christ Church Cathedral School and continued at Methodist Boys High School, where he earned his General Certificate of Education and “A” Level Certificate. He later matriculated at the University of Lagos, obtaining a B.Sc (Hons) in Banking & Finance, and furthered his studies with a Master’s Degree in Banking from Lagos State University.

Ajiga has an active social presence, having joined the Okoo Faji Carnival Association and captained the Massey Zone group in 1997. He is also a member of several elite clubs, including the Ikoyi Club, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Eko Club, and the Altimate Circle of Nigeria. Furthermore, he presides over the Association of Like Minds, a newly formed social organization.

Professionally, Ajiga is a Certified Accountant and a Fellow of several esteemed bodies, including the International Federation of Accountants, the Institute of Public Accountants, and the Certified Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He is also an active member of the Nigeria Institute of Management.

Ajiga, who has a passion for learning across various subjects, enjoys playing lawn tennis and swimming. He is married with children.

The honorary award is in collaboration with Lead Times Africa Magazine and the Institute of Arts Management and Professional Studies (IAMPS). Professor Prince Chidi Nwauba, the African Representative of Prowess University and Registrar/CEO of IAMPS, stated that the degree award recognizes Ajiga and other awardees for their integrity, transparency, and accountability in leadership.

Professor Buba S. Mshelia, Advisory Board Chairman of Lead Times Africa Magazine, highlighted that this year’s award theme is “Curbing the Excesses of Kidnapping and Armed Banditry in Africa Through Good Governance in Leadership – Panacea to Nigeria’s Food Security Challenges and Sustainable Development.”

Other notable recipients include Ebony State Deputy Governor Mrs. Patricia Obilla; Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, wife of the Bayelsa Deputy Governor; and the Deputy Speakers of Kwara and Adamawa States, Hon. Ojo Olayiwola and Mohammed Buba Jibawa, respectively.
