Purported sack of SWAN President, joke taken too far – Anambra Chapter

Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter, says the purported impeachment of Isaiah Benjamin, national president of SWAN, by some members of the National Executive Committee is a joke taken too far.

The chapter said this in a communiqué issued at the end of its February Congress in Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday.

The communiqué, which was signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, chairman and assistant secretary, respectively, called on those behind the move to think twice and retrace their steps.

SWAN Anambra maintained its stand that there was no crisis in the national leadership of the body and that Benjamin remained the duly elected and authentic president of the association following his emergence at Omoku, Rivers State, in July 2023.

“The Congress frowned at the alleged stage-managed crisis in the National Executive Committee of SWAN and condemned the activities of those lending themselves as willing tools to destabilise the association

“The purported impeachment of Benjamin by some members of the NEC was ludicrous and a joke taken too far.

“We call on those spearheading this destructive agenda to have a rethink and retrace their steps or be ready to face the consequences of their ill-advised and ill-intentioned actions,” it said.

Anambra SWAN called on the Isaiah Benjamin-led executive to intensify preparation for a full council as soon as possible, saying it had become expedient.

The chapter said the Full Council would address the nagging issues conclusively and sustainably.

It commended members in Anambra for their active participation in the association and urged them to continue to give their best as sports journalists.(NAN)
