SOME youth corps members serving in Nasarawa State, alongside ad-hoc staffers, who were abducted, on Saturday, during the elections, by the villagers in Assakio, Adogi and Shige communities in Lafia Local Government Area of the state, on Sunday, were rescued by combined security operatives.
Mr Adamu Anzalu, who spoke on behalf of the abductors, said they were rescued by the security operatives at Ashige, on Shendam Road before Assakio Village.
He explained that they were all held hostage because the collation and returning officers absconded, while the villagers insisted that unless the officers returned, they would not be released.
According to him, “I have to persuade the villagers that the results would not be alter before we were released 20 hours after. It was after my plea that the people released us and we call on security operatives ,who picked us on our way out of the village.”
When contacted, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Abdullahi Danyaya ,confirmed it .
