The leadership of Obateru, an agrarian community near Gelegele in Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo, has called for increased sensitisation in the rural area on the need for collection of the permanent voter cards (PVCs) ahead o the general elections.
The community’s acting Odionwere (Head), Emmanuel Uwagboe, made the call in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) on Thursday in Benin.
Odionwere, in the statement signed by the community’s Secretary, Mr. Kevin Okunzuwa, said such awareness campaign would spur on the people to be alive to their civic responsibilities as electorate.
Uwagboe urged inhabitants of Obateru to avail themselves of the opportunity created by INEC, by moving collection points of PVCs to polling units nearer them.
According to him, the period of lamentation over bad rulership is gone; now is the time to positively change the narrative for good of everyone.
“The first step to achieving that desire is to have your PVC that you can use to bring about the desired positive change during the February general elections.
” And that is why the leadership of this community is asking the relevant authorities to increase and extend awareness campaign to the people in the rural areas.
“For us, we have constituted different committees to liaise with our women, farmers and youths on the need to sacrifice a day from their busy schedules to go and collect their PVCs that they will use to change their destinies,” he said. (NAN)
