Resident doctors offer free medical, surgical services in Kwara

The Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (ARD-UITH), has offered free medical and surgical services to 925 patients in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara.

Dr Badmus Habeeb, the branch President of the association, said this while speaking on the sidelines of the medical outreach on Tuesday in Offa.

Habeeb explained that the outreach was part of the activities marking the 38th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the association.

He listed some of the common ailment detected from the patients to include upper respiratory tract infections, malaria and body pain.

He assured that patients with more serious ailments would be referred to the UITH for further diagnosis and treatment.

According to him, the medical and surgical services are free as members contribute to ensure they reach out to the indigent.

He said that well-meaning organisations contribute to the association in offering the service.

Dr Dele Abdullahi, the Vice-President of UITH-ARD, explained that the outreach include medical, surgical and ophthalmological services.

“We have about 850 patients with medical needs, 35 patients with surgical needs, 20 patients with ophthalmological needs and 20 with dental needs,” he said.

He commended the Offa community for supporting the programme, adding that the Offa General Hospital will be used for some of the surgical intervention.

Dr Solagbade Remi, the Department of Surgery, UITH, explained that they performed surgery on cases of Hernia procedure, Breast lump, Dental procedures such as extraction of teeth and filling, and cataract surgery, among others. (NAN)
