The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Mr Johnson Akinpelu has warned residents against indiscriminate waste disposal.
Akinpelu gave the warning on Saturday, while leading the council’s monthly environmental sanitation across strategic locations in the local government.
The exercise involved management staff, task force officials, community leaders, residents and other stakeholders, who evacuated refuse heaps and cleared identified environmental black spots using compactors and other sanitation equipment.
He said that the council would intensify public enlightenment and enforcement to curb the practice of indiscriminate waste dumping.
The chairman said that the exercise was part of his administration’s commitment to promoting environmental hygiene and encouraging responsible waste management among residents.
“A clean environment is the foundation of a healthy and productive society. We are determined to keep Alimosho clean, safe and attractive,” he said.
Akinpelu said that maintaining a clean environment was a collective responsibility and urged residents and stakeholders to actively support sanitation efforts
According to him, indiscriminate waste disposal poses serious health and environmental risks, urging residents to make use of approved waste collection channels.
He said that the monthly sanitation had become a key feature of the administration’s drive to improve public health and ensure a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Alimosho.
Akinpelu reaffirmed that environmental sanitation would remain a priority for his administration, as part of efforts to protect public health and improve residents’ quality of life.
One of the residents, Mr Segun Adefila, commended the council’s proactive approach to environmental sanitation and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at keeping the community clean. (NAN).
