Belgrade, Sept. 8, 2025 (RIA/NAN) Serbian students and opposition supporters staged a demonstration in central Belgrade on Monday, blocking streets near the government building, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
The organisers called for a rally in front of the government building starting noon, at the intersection of Nemanjina and Kneza Milosa streets.
Where the foreign and defense ministries are also located. Protesters waved national and faculty flags, banners, and blew whistles and vuvuzelas.
After blocking the streets near the government building, the protesters proceeded with a march through central Belgrade.
The march will continue toward the Palace of Justice and then the interior ministry building.
The police are not interfering with the protest, RIA Novosti’s correspondent said.
According to the police, rival pro-government rallies drew more than 126,000 people to the streets in 111 cities and towns on Sunday.
Student and opposition protests began in Serbia after a canopy collapsed at a Novi Sad railway station on Nov. 1, 2024, killing 16 people.
Tensions escalated in mid-August, with up to 17,000 people protesting across Serbia on Sept. 1.
Prime Minister, Duro Macut, has condemned the violence. (RIA/NAN)
