The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that only products with required specifications were permitted into the market.
The Director-General of the agency, Dr Ifeanyi Okeke stated this while presenting Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to six companies on Wednesday in Osogbo.
Represented by Mrs Talatu Ethan, SON’s South-West Regional Director, Okeke said the agency strive to ensure mandatory compliance towards safeguarding lives and public health.
He said the agency would not relent in its mandate in getting rid of fake and substandard goods from the markets across the country.
The SON helmsman applauded the recipients of the MANCAP certificates for their effort towards ensuring that their products met the required standards.
According to Okeke, the MANCAP certificate is a mandatory product certification scheme put in place to ensure that all locally manufactured products conform with relevant NIS standards.
This, he said, would ensure that such products were of good quality before getting to the market or exported.
While urging the companies to maintain standards in their production, Okeke said the component of MANCAP includes inspection, testing and certification.
He said that compliance with the component would enable them to sell their products both locally and globally.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the agency in Osun, Mr Oyewopo Abdulrazaq urged the awardees to make good use of their certificates.
