Kaduna, Sept. 2, 2025(NAN)A surety, Rahama Haruna ,48, who allegedly failed to produce a defendant, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, a resident of Kawo Kaduna, was arraigned on a one-count charge of failure to produce a defendant for whom she stood as surety.
Haruna, however, pleaded not guilty to charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Baba, told the court that the surety committed the offence on Sept. 2.
Baba said that the defendant stood as surety to one Mohammed Garba facing a charge of alleged theft in Kaduna.
He said the surety failed to produce Garba when his case was called three consecutive times in court.
Baba said while the defendant did promise to always produce the defendant on every sitting but had reneged on her promise.
The prosecutor said added that a surety who failed to produced a defendant and prevented the course of justice, contravened Section 297 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
“The Section prescribe three years imprisonment if found guilty.
The Magistrate, Hajara Dauda, admitted her to bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety should show evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court as part of the bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 24 for hearing (NAN)
