Taraba Assembly Swears In New Members

coat of armsThe former speaker of the Taraba state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, who election was nullified by the Appeal Court, has been re-sworn in as a member of the House following his landmark victory during the re-run election which took place on the 20th of last month h in Mbamnga Constituency of Sardauna Local Government Area of the state.

Also sworn in by the speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Mark Useni, was the member representing Ardo-Kola constituency, Emmanuel Dame.

It would be recall that the election victory of both members were cut short by the Appeal Court in Yola, Adamawa State, thereby ordering for a re-run in the two affected constituencies.

Both Diah and Dame whom our state correspondent observe red were members of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), emerged victoriously in the re-run which was adjudged election observers as ” fair, transparent and credible.”

Swearing in the members yesterday at the halo chamber of the House of Assembly, the speaker who was visibly elected said the” ” House is now fully constituted with all the twenty-four members in tact.”

Noting that the ” Court of Appeal ordered re-run election in Mbamnga and Ardo-Kola constituencies” the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) according to him ” has since issued the two members their certificates of return.”

Speaking to our reporter, Diah who was visibly elated said the his victory at the poll further proved that the people of his constituency are massively behind him.

He reiterated his determination not to relent in contributing to the growth of his constituency, his local government and the state at large.

He admonished his colleagues to continue to work as ” one family” in order to catapult the state to the height and to as well herald the much needed dividends of democracy to the door posts of the people.

Both the Executive and the Legislative arms of the government, he said, would continue to work hand in hands in order to meet “up” with the yearnings and aspiration of the ” people of our dear state.”

Diah urged his colleagues from the opposition political parties to close rank with PDP members in the House who are in majority, for the rapid growth of the state.

The swearing as noticed by our correspondent heralded the presence of dignitaries from the government circle, politicians as well as business morgues from the nooks and crannies of the state.
