Three Soldiers Arrested for Alleged Ammunition Theft in Maiduguri

In a clandestine operation in Maiduguri, Borno State, troops from Operation Desert Sanity have apprehended three soldiers on charges of stealing ammunition.

The arrests occurred along Njimtilo Road in Maiduguri, where the soldiers were reportedly conducting covert operations. According to a military source, two of the apprehended soldiers were en route to Makurdi, Benue State, while another was heading to Abuja.

The military source disclosed that one of the soldiers had allegedly concealed ammunition in a bag of rice. On December 2, the troops discovered and detained the suspects, revealing the details of the seized ammunition.

The source stated, “One was en route to Makurdi with 250 rounds of 7.62 mm. Another en route to Makurdi was arrested with four fully loaded magazines and 110 rounds concealed in a mudu of rice. The last soldier was going to Abuja. He was arrested with 14 rounds of 7.62 mm. The suspects are in custody for further investigation.”

The incident raises concerns about the security and integrity of military personnel, prompting authorities to delve into the matter to ascertain the motives behind the alleged theft and the potential implications for national security.
