Benin City, February 19, 2024: Justice S. M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Benin City has scheduled March 12 as the commencement date for the trial of six individuals implicated in the death of Lilian Omokhuale, daughter of prominent businessman Francis Omoruyi, CEO of Uyi Technical Company Limited.
The defendants, Jessica Iguodala Oghomwen, Akpes Omorodion, Chukwudi Akpotowho, Joy Noren, Vincent Uhunmwangho, and Blessing Jatto, stand accused of allegedly facilitating Omokhuale’s suicide. Additionally, they face charges related to money laundering, concealment of funds’ sources, and operating specialised banking without proper licencing.
The indictment, filed under suit number FHC/B/5C/2024, alleges violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, the Criminal Code Act 2004, and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020.
Omokhuale, aged 40, reportedly took her own life on October 7, 2022, within the government-reserved area of Benin City, Edo State. Subsequent police investigations implicated the defendants in facilitating her suicide, prompting legal action against them.
The upcoming trial is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Omokhuale’s death and the alleged involvement of the defendants in the tragic incident.
