Troops recover 110 weapons, arrest 271 suspects over various offences
Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a special military task force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, have arrested 271 suspects for committing various offences within their areas of responsibility.
DCP Terzungwe Iyela, the Deputy Commander of OPSH, presented the suspects and recovered weapons to newsmen on Friday in Jos.
Iyela said that troops of the operation also recovered 1,161 rounds of ammunition and rescued 79 kidnapping victims within the period under review.
The deputy commander explained that suspects were arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, and banditry, among other crimes.
”79 civilians were rescued from kidnappers and armed robbers, while a total of 100 different calibres of weapons and 1,161 pieces of ammunition were recovered from the suspected criminals.
”Troops also neutralised 13 armed criminals and arrested 271 suspects for offenses related to kidnapping, armed robbery, gun running, banditry, farm destruction, vandalism, and other sundry crimes, he said.
Iyela explained that it had charged 33 suspects in court, dismantled two arms fabrication factories, and recovered 554 cattle from rustlers.
He expressed the commitment of the troops of OPSH toward ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.(NAN)
