Delta State‘s former governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has been released from prison. He was released by noon today London time upon a court order. His media aide, Mr. Tony Elumenor confirmed the release.
Ibori was sentenced to prison by a United Kingdom court for 13 years and served out his term mid yesternight.
Ruling Wednesday, presiding Judge, Mrs. Justice May, who heard an emergency appeal filed by Ibori to enforce his rights, however refused the Home Office’s request to further hold him in prison and ordered his immediate release without conditions. Both parties will return to court in January, the judge ordered.
Expectation of his return home to Nigeria, however, remains murky as he is expected to reside at his St. John’s Wood residence only and will report to the police once weekly. Friends and associates are gathered in London to deliberate on the future of the former governor.
