Benin, April 7, 2026 (NAN) The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Edo Command, has intensified efforts to boost operational effectiveness with the successful conduct of the second phase of its orientation and training exercise for its officers and men.

The training, held on Tuesday in Benin, drew senior officers from the state command headquarters, underscoring its importance to ongoing capacity-building initiatives.

Mr Daniel Akeme, State Commandant of the group, represented by his Assistant, Sunday Aigbokie, said the exercise was aimed at equipping personnel with practical skills for effective community policing and vigilance duties.

Akeme said the training reflected the command’s resolve to improve operational standards and strengthening collaboration with security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across Edo State.

The State Provost, Williams Osemwegie, and State Intelligence Officer, Victor Adeloje, during the session, charged participants to uphold discipline, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.

They stressed that the credibility of the organization depended largely on the conduct of its personnel.

In a move to deepen inter-agency collaboration, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Evbuotubu Division, CSP Ifa Uwadiae, represented by the Divisional Crime Officer, SP Oyariogbezina Charles, sensitized participants on safety protocols and lawful engagement.

The session, according to officer, was designed to enhance synergy between the VGN and the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining security.

The exercise also featured the presentation of souvenirs by the Oredo Command to visiting officers and the police representatives, symbolising cooperation and shared commitment to community safety. (NAN)
