….Fixes Next Tuesday For Continuation Of Ministerial Nominees’ Appearance

For the second time in two days, the Senate on Thursday announced the deferment of the screening of the former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as a minister under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration when it said the screening of the remaining Ministerial Nominees has been postponed till Tuesday next week.

The development was made public before the plenary, by the Chairman, Senate’s Adhoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Dino Melaye. He added that the exercise would be rounded off Wednesday next week.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki announced Thursday that former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Adebayo Shittu will be screened among other Nominees today.

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the members of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions are sharply divided on the screening and confirmation of former Rivers State Governor Amaechi as a minister.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari submitted the name of Amaechi as one of the first batch of 21 Ministerial nominees sent to the Senate President for screening and confirmation.

We gathered that some senators elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and members of the Committee are said to be moving against the screening of Amaechi.

Amaechi had on Monday appeared before the Senator Samuel Anyanwu led Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions where he was told that it would amount to subjudice to handle the petition on alleged corruption by integrity group since the case was in court.
