Ado-Ekiti, Sept. 9, 2025(NAN) A 23-year-old woman, Daniel Mercy, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.
The defendant, of Ado Community High School, Omisanajana Area in Ado-Ekiti, is standing trial on a charge of fraud, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Feb.1 and March 12, at about 4:00 p.m at Owowi Global Venture Limited Store , Ajilosun Street in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant, a cashier at the company, fraudulently stole a cash sum of N1.1 million that was entrusted to her and converted the funds to her own use.
Adeniyi said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 295 and punishable under Section 302(8b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adedayo Awe, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with promise that she would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 9 for hearing.(NAN)
