A 35-year-old woman, Anifatu Adebisi on Thursday stood before a Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly insulting the police and assaulting a policeman.
Adebisi is standing trial on a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oluseye Akinola alleged that the defendant committed the offence on June 21,, at about 9.45 a.m., at Sanyo police station, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akinola further said that Adebisi allegedly uttered different abusive and provocative words against the police authority.
He further said that the defendant assaulted one insp. Stephen Alade, the station’s guard because he ordered her to move out.
Akinola stated that the offences contravene the provision of sections 249 and 356 of the criminal code cap 38 vol. ii laws of Oyo Station 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Latunji added that the sureties must be relatives and show valid identification card.
She adjourned the matter until Aug. 8, for hearing.(NAN)
