The Federal Road Safe Corps (FRSC), Jigawa Command, has urged
cyclists and other road users to embrace the use of helmet and other safety measures on the road.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Umar Mas’udu, made the call in a statement issued in Dutse on Wednesday to commemorate World Bicycle Day (WBD).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WBD is celebrated annually on June 3 to recognize
the role of bicycle in promoting sustainable transportation, health and social inclusion.

Established in 2018 by the United Nations, World Bicycle Day recognizes the uniqueness and versatility of the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally sustainable means of transport.

The sector commander, therefore, said the command joined the global community in marking the 8th United Nations World Bicycle Day with the theme “Boosting Urban Life With the Bicycle.”

He highlighted how cycling reduces pollution, promotes healthier lifestyles and supports sustainable cities.

He described cycling as not just sport, but a transport, health and environmental protection in one and urged road users in the state to share road responsibly, respect cyclists and embrace safety practices like helmet use and visibility.

According to him, part of the activities lined up by the command to mark the day include public awareness rally, safety lectures for cycling groups and distribution of reflective stickers to riders across major towns of the state. (NAN)
