Yari sympathises with Gummi flood victims

Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari (APC-Zamfara West) has sympathised with the people of Gummi Emirate over the recent flood disaster in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yari was represented by a delegation led by the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC) in charge of Zamfara, Alhaji Muhammad Muttaka-Rini.

The committee visited Gummi Emir’s palace to sympathise with him and inspected the affected houses as well as farmlands.

Muttaka-Rini described the disaster as ‘terrible[, saying, “this is very sad to see thousands of people without shelter because of the flood disaster.

“We are directed by Sen. Yari to visit Gummi today to commiserate with the deceased families and sympathise with the victims of this disaster.

“We are going to present our report to him with a view of assisting the victims.”

Muttaka-Rini assured that the lawmaker would provide urgent assistance to the victims.

He said, ”Sen. Yari will liaise with the relevant authorities and seek for the Federal Government’s urgent assistance to the victims.

“As quickly as possible, we are going to compile the report we gathered here today, I believe Yari is ever ready to support victims of this disaster.”

Also speaking, the Coordinator of  Yari’s Constituency Office, Alhaji Sha’ayau Sarkin-Fawa, urged the victims to consider the incident as a test from God.

He called on them to be patient, adding that more interventions were coming to the victims through the office of the lawmaker.

Responding, the Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan, commended the lawmaker for his timely response to the disaster.

He said, “We appreciate your visit to Gummi today, this flood disaster is very unfortunate to us considering the large number of people affected.

“A large number of houses and farmlands were destroyed by the flood.

“Our people are seriously affected, we are appealing for urgent intervention from government at all levels as well as well-meaning individuals.”

Hassan said that the emirate has set up a committee to ascertain the level of damages and the number of the victims. (NAN
