The Independent National Electoral Commission has expressed further worry over the  unabated attacks on its facilities.

The Commission came to the conclusion that the attacks were now a matter of national emergency, after an emergency session today which was prompted by yet another attack on its office by arsonists.

Hoodlums have set on fire, the Igboeze South Local Government Area office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Enugu State, located in Ibeagwa Aka at about 10.45pm Sunday night.

The Enugu State Chief Fire Officer, Okwudili Ohaa, who confirmed the attack said the situation had been brought under control, although one of the rooms in the office was severely affected.

This latest attack comes less than a week after the INEC State Headquarters was attacked and vehicles and other valuables torched. It brings to three the number of INEC offices in Enugu State that have been set ablaze by arsonists in two weeks, while INEC had warned that further attacks may lead to the delay or suspension of the country’s 2023 electoral activities.
