The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, on Tuesday urged residents to be hospitable to tourists who would visit the state during the Yuletide.
Akinbile-Yusuf, who made the call during a media chat held at Alausa, Ikeja, said that Lagos residents must be willing to accommodate and create positive impression in the minds of the tourists.
She said that the state, known as the city of excellence, had lots to offer tourists during the Yuletide, urging the youth to be enterprising as they engage in massive production of souvenirs.
” I advise Lagos residents to remain hospitable to tourists this Yuletide, these are the people to boost our economy in the state; the youths also must be enterprising.
“They should focus more on production of souvenirs which the tourists will leave with and this will make them thirst after visiting the state more,” she said..
The commissioner advised Lagos residents to use the waterways effectively to ease the traffic situation in the state, assuring that they remained safe for tourists.
She said as a way to improve on transportation in the state, the state Ministry of Waterfront would be making available 10 jetties for use, which would be commissioned soon.
” We realized no matter the number of roads constructed in the city, it cannot stop the traffic situation, so we want to encourage water transportation.
” Our waterways are safe and neat, we want Lagos residents to make use of the waterways,” she said.
Akinbile-Yusuf urged movie producers to always seek permission and clearance from the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) before shooting their films.
She said this was necessary to guide against being manhandled by street urchins in the state, which the film makers usually complained of.
According to her, when needed permission is acquired, the LSFVCB will assign officials to accompany the film production crews to their desired locations to guarantee their safety. (NAN).
