Delivering judgment, Justice Hadiza Suleiman held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond the reasonable doubt.
“The court considered the age of the defendants at the time they committed the offence and the fact that the incident occurred during a fight,” she said.
Suleiman, however, sentenced the convicts to 14 years imprisonment each without an option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that the Garba and Garba-Yaroro, committed the offence on March 16, 2019, at about 8:15 p.m. at Rimi Line, Zango Dakata Quarters Kano
He said Garba-Yaroro held the victim’s hands while Garba stabbed him in the back with a sharp knife during a misunderstanding over a girl.
According to the prosecutor, the victim later died from the injury sustained.
They had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 85 and 221(b) of the Penal Code.
The defence counsel, Mr M.B. Dan’azumi, urged the court to temper justice with mercy in view of the age of the convicts.(NAN)
