2 men arraigned over alleged N5.3m fraud

Badagry (Lagos State) Feb.24, 2026 (NAN) The Police on Tuesday, dragged two men before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged N5.3 million fraud.

The defendants are: Yusuf Olaleye, 32; and Hassan Ajayi ,27.

The duo whose addresses were not stated, are standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, fraud and conversion.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP. Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 6, 2025, at about 9.00.a.m. at Badagry Market in Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to defraud and steal.

He alleged that the first defendant obtained coconut valued N5.3 million from the second defendant, without the consent of its owner, one Mr Yusuf Segbemu.

According to the prosecutor, the first defendant then converted the goods to his own without the consent of the owner.

He said that the offences contravene the provisions of sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum one million naira each, with two sureties each in the like sum.

He ordered hat one of the sureties must be a community leader.

The court adjourned the case until March 4, for mention. (NAN)
