Man docked for allegedly stealing items worth N5m

Ikorodu (Lagos State), Feb. 24, 2026 (NAN) The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 40-year-old man, Olaniyi Popoola, before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over  alleged theft of items valued at N5,000,000.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of felony,  conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2023, 2024, Dec 5, 2025 and 2026 at Isiu area of Ikorodu.

Famuyiwa said the defendant allegedly conspired within himself and stole lighting stand for the hotel, cement mixer engine, cinema projector, speakers, DSTV and GOTV decoders, wall ceiling lights, and swimming pool equipment.

Others are; Pumps and functions, plumbing pipes, electrical conduit pipes bar stools and external mental panels, external benches, beam iron’s, generator welding machine and iron pods.

The prosecutor said the defendant also stole 20 cartons of floor tiles, hand wood swimming tiles and many other items valued N5million, property belonging to the complainant one Mr Tony Murray-Bruce.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravenes Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr O. A. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5millon, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogbe ordered that the sureties must have verified addresses.

He then adjourned the case until April 16, for mention. (NAN)
