Rotary Club of Ibadan in collaboration with Nigerian Dental Association, Oyo Chapter, on Wednesday advised primary school to always pay attention to their oral hygiene.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at an oral health sensitization even, the organizations also distributed tooth treatment items, toothpastes and brushes to the pupils.

The event, which took place at Baptist Primary Schoool, Isokun, Oyo town was in partnership with Fortune Health Plus (FHEPIN).

Mr. Samuel Kolawole, President of Rotary Club of Ibadan, Jericho Metro, said they embarked on the programme because of their interest in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

He said that prevention and treatment of diseases and impacting positively on people’s lives were part of rotary club activities.

He said that demonstration of teeth treatment and distribution of tooth brushes and pastes would help the pupils to properly care for their mouths and promote oral hygiene.

Kolawole said the club had been involved in other humanitarian gestures in the state and would not relent.

The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Adeniyi Joel, said the programme was timely and catered for the well-being of younger ones.

Joe said proper care of the month was an integral part of personal hygiene.

He said that diseases like gingivitis, periodontitis and toothache were very rampant among school age children due to improper care of their mouth.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo, who inaugurated the distribution, said it would create awareness among school students on the importance of oral health.

Ladipo, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Muftau Ayoola, the distribution would be done in 13 primary schools in the state.

He called on other stakeholders to work as a team to ensure increased awareness on the importance of oral health especially among primary school pupils. (NAN)
