2 men docked over alleged impersonation on Facebook

Ibadan, Feb. 19, 2026 (NAN) The police on Thursday, dragged two men before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, for allegedly impersonating as ladies in the United States (U.S.), in a bid to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The defendants are: Akorede Temitope, 33; and Oyetunde Ayobami, 32.

They are residents of Moniya, Ibadan, and are standing trial on a two -count charge of impersonation and fraud.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Salewa Hammed, alleged that the first defendant falsely represented himself as one Angelia Whiteside living in U.S., so as to commit fraud.

He alleged that he committed the offence on Google Chat, and Iphone message app, using number 49- 7848- 6513, knowing same to be false.

He alleged that the second defendant also represented himself on Facebook and iPhone message app, as one Theresa Gracias, a white lady living in U.S., knowing his representation to be false, and in a bid to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The offences contravene the provisions of section 484 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. M. Olagbenro, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Olagbenro held that one of the surety must be a blood relation of the defendants.

She consequently, adjourned the case until March 2, for hearing (NAN)
