Two security guards, Sani Musa and Hasimu Saidu, on Thursday, appeared before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, over alleged theft of 71 bags of cement
Musa, 40, and Saidu, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the two counts of criminal conspiracy and theft by servant preferred against each of them.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Harry Aikhabo, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on June 1.
She informed the court that the complainant employed the defendants to guard his building site, but they allegedly dishonesty made away with 71 bags of cement under their care.
Nwachukwu said during Police investigation and interrogation, the defendants confessed to have made away with the said cement and sold each bag for N9,000 and shared the money among themselves.
She told the court that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
The chief magistrate said that the sureties must also be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He subsequently adjourned the case until July 2 for hearing. (NAN)
