Mr Ibrahim Akut, an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat in Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna has pledged to provide people-oriented representation if given the opportunity.
Akut is aspiring for the position under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Akut, a former chairman of Kaura Local Government Area, made the pledge during his formal declaration at Agban ward in Kaura.
He said the current economic hardship in the country required leaders with the capacity and commitment to improve the living conditions of the people.
The aspirant stated that the country needed leaders at all levels of government who shared the vision of delivering good governance and improving the welfare of citizens.
According to him, public office should be used to serve the people rather than for personal enrichment.
“There are people who want to buy houses when they have the opportunity to represent the people.
“We want to serve the people and not enrich ourselves. By the grace of God, we are already comfortable and we want our people to be comfortable as well.
“We are here not to make our lives better but to make the lives of the people better,” he said.
Akut added that the party’s leadership had instilled in its members the discipline and commitment needed to serve Nigerians effectively.
Also speaking, Mr Alex Iya, Zonal Publicity Secretary of NDC Kaduna South, urged the people of Kaura Federal Constituency to support the party in the 2027 elections.
Iya said the party was committed to bringing governance closer to the people and ensuring proper representation.
“We have been tested before. I served as a local government chairman and we worked in the best interest of the people.
“The records are there and we have never been found wanting,” he said.
He described Akut as a focused and determined politician capable of bringing positive change to Kaura Constituency.
Iya expressed disappointment with the ruling party, alleging that it had deviated from its founding principles and values.
According to him, the NDC is determined to provide credible leadership and restore confidence in governance.
He said prominent leaders associated with the party had verifiable records of service and remained committed to purposeful leadership.
In his remarks, Mr Williams Shechet, Secretary of NDC in Kaura Local Government Area, said the party was presenting fresh ideas and new leadership to address the country’s challenges.
He noted that Nigerians were facing economic hardship and needed leaders with workable solutions.
“People are suffering and looking for leadership that can take them out of their present situation.
“We need fresh ideas and new ideas to make things work,” he said.
Shechet urged eligible voters to support the party in order to bring about the desired change in the constituency and the country. (NAN)
