24-year-old pleads guilty to stealing colleague’s phone

Ibadan, March 9, 2026 (NAN) A 24-year-old member of staff of Sumal Foods Ltd., located at Oluyole, Ibadan, Tobi Gabriel, on Monday pleaded guilty to stealing his colleague’s mobile phone.

Gabriel was arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft.

The Magistrate, Mrs Moyosore Atanda, remanded the defendant in a correctional facility and adjourned the case until March 13 for review of facts and judgment.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 5 at the company’s premises.

Tellang said that Gabriel stole a Samsung phone valued at N208,000, belonging to his colleague, Jimlas Ayeni.

He said the phone had been plugged in for charging in Ayeni’s office when the defendant took it.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000 and is punishable under the same law.(NAN)
