
The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) says about 20 road crashes occurred from June 13 to June 23., 2024.
According to statistics obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),, Abeokuta,, signed by the agency’s Commander and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) , Mr Seni Ogunyemi, on Wednesday,114 persons were involved in the crashes .
The agency said the statistics were pulled from the 18 major corridors of the state.
Analysing the statistics, the agency said two deaths and 20 injured persons were recorded in the period reported.
“19 commercial vehicles , 16 private cars ,5 motorcycles, 13 trucks and 9 trailers were involved ,” the agency said .
The agency, comparing 2024 to 2023 statistics, in the same period, said road traffic deaths rose by 50 per cent and the number of injured persons increased by 60 per cent .
“However, the total number of cases in crashes reduced by 5 per cent .” It said,
The agency further said that it discovered that the major cause of the crashes was speeding .
The agency said it would ensure that all needed structures were constructed to minimise road traffic crashes .(NAN
