The Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) plans to organize a train-the-trainers program for Deejays Association of Nigeria (DJAN) officials to enable them to enforce copyright laws and ensure that all DJs are properly licensed.
DJAN Chairman, FCT Chapter, Isa Justice, popularly known as DJ Smooth Play, said this at the 2025 Welcome Party organised for DJAN members in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Train the Trainers program will be held in Lagos during the first quarter of 2025.
Justice said all DJAN chairpersons across the country, including national executive officers, would be trained on the guidelines before they embark on copyright law enforcement.
He expressed optimism that the training would empower all DJAN officials to further train their members at various chapters on the copyright laws, enforcement, and compliance.
“On a brighter note, through the efforts of the DJAN national body, we have secured agency status with the MCSN. This achievement enables us to collect royalties on behalf of the government, a step that will significantly strengthen our association.
“As part of this initiative, MCSN will be organizing a train-the-trainers program in Lagos during the first quarter of 2025 for DJAN state chairpersons.
“This training will focus on the enforcement of the Copyright Act 2022, ensuring that all DJs across the country are properly licensed.
“This marks a significant step toward professionalism and compliance within our industry,” FCT DJAN boss said.
Also speaking, National Public Relations Officer of DJAN, Taiwo Ogungbuyi, popularly known as DJ Teazer, commended MCSN leadership for initiating the program.
Ogungbuyi said the program would help the association to sensitise its members to be properly licensed before using music that was somebody’s intellectual property.
According to him, this program will empower DJAN executives to embark on sensitisation and public enlightenment through the media and social media platforms before a clampdown on unlicensed DJs across the country.
Also present at the welcome party were Nigerians in the diaspora who expressed excitement over Nigerian music and culture. (NAN)
