A 52-year-old estate agent, Adebowale Adedeji on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing rent paid by tenants.
The defendant whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Opaleye, alleged that the defendant committed the offence in December 2025, at No 3, Anfani Layout College Crescent, Oke-Ado in Ibadan.
He alleged that while acting as agent of a landlord, one Mr Adewale Kayode, the defendant stole the sum of N1.2 million being part of rent he collected from tenants.
According to him, the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
She, consequently, adjourned the case until July 2, for hearing. (NAN)
