The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) Vanguard faction has rejected a recent convention held by a rival group, describing it as illegal and a betrayal of the party’s founding ideals.

The National Chairman of the PRP, Abdulmajid Yakubu-Daudu, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Monday in Kano.

He said the group, which aligned with a Kaduna-based faction, had no legitimacy to lead the party.

Yakubu-Daudu alleged that the faction’s leadership, which reportedly emerged from a convention in Abuja, was attempting to turn the PRP into a platform for “discredited politicians” from other opposition parties.

According to him, “The PRP remains a socialist-oriented party committed to the emancipation of the masses, not a vehicle for capitalist interests.

“The PRP is not for sale to the highest bidder.

“It was founded by the working class, progressive intellectuals and the toiling masses, and it will remain so.”

The national chairman criticized reported invitations extended to politicians from other parties, saying such moves undermined the party’s constitution and ideological foundation.

He dismissed claims of reconciliation efforts, questioning the basis for unity amid ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership.

“Unite on what basis? Illegality or co-option? What happens to the party’s socialist orientation under unelected actors?,” he queried.

Yakubu-Daudu described the Kaduna faction as disconnected from grassroots structures, accusing it of pursuing elite interests rather than building a mass-based political movement.

He reiterated that the PRP Vanguard would continue its struggle through legal means, grassroots mobilization and public engagement to reclaim the party.

The faction also criticized Nigeria’s prevailing economic system, describing it as exploitative and responsible for widespread poverty despite the country’s abundant wealth.

“The party remains committed to advocating socialism as an alternative to what it termed a ‘failed capitalist system’,” he said.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians, particularly the working class, to intensify efforts toward social and political change ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The PRP remains the party of the masses and will not be hijacked by elite interests,” the chairman assured. (NAN)
