Police arraign woman for alleged assault, grievous harm

The police on Thursday arraigned a 40-year-old woman, Ifeoma Chianumba, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing someone with a knife causing grievous harm.

Chianumba is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and grievous harm.

The prosecutor, Insp Josephine Ikhayere, alleged that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences on Feb. 5 at 26, Ajoke Okusanya St., Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.

According to her, the defendant conspired with others to assault one Vivian Azinge.

She said the defendant allegedly stabbed the complainant on the right hand with a knife, causing multiple injuries.

The prosecutor also alleged that the injuries inflicted on the complainant amounted to grievous harm.

The offences contravene Sections 173, 245, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 provides three years imprisonment, while Section 245 provides seven years imprisonment.

Also, Section 411 prescribes two years imprisonment.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Lateef A. Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until July 7 for further proceedings. (NAN)
